You ever start your day knowing, deep down, that it’s going to be a complete shit show? Well, that was my day today—one for the books.
It all began with a lovely three-hour drive to work. Not because I wanted to take the scenic route, but because I needed to drop my car off at the shop. You know that sinking feeling you get when you just know the news is going to be bad? Yeah, I had that. And guess what? I was right. The dealership calls me and tells me it’s going to cost $9,400 to fix my car. That’s right—$9,400 American dollars. I should’ve known it was astronomical when I had a voice mail from the salesman at the dealership asking me if I wanted to trade it in.
My jaw hit the floor. “Oh my God!” I exclaimed, unable to contain my shock. One of my nurses, bless her heart, comes running into my office, all concerned, asking if I’m okay. I tell her the news, and she gives me that look, the one that says, “Girl, you’ve got every right to be freaking out.”
So, I try to shake it off, thinking maybe the day will turn around. Wrong. I finally make it home, ready to relax, when my son hits me with another curveball. He tells me he’s done wearing Polo and wants to upgrade to Essentials and some other designer brands. I stare at him, trying to process the audacity of this child, as I silently say to myself, “Well, excuse the fuck out of me.”
He even has the nerve to give me a list of his preferred options like I’m some kind of personal shopper. I just look at him and say, “Boy, bye.” After the news I got today about my car costing $9,400 to fix, you might be lucky if you’re not walking around in plain white tees from now on.
So, yeah, it was one of those days. A day that tested my patience, my wallet, and my sanity. But hey, what can you do? Sometimes, life just throws everything at you at once, and all you can do is take a deep breath, laugh it off, and hope tomorrow brings a little less chaos.
